We have more than 30 puppies at the shelter right now who all need good homes. If you want to adopt a puppy, the best thing to do is to visit the shelter to see who is still available (many are!) and to meet the dog in person. If you have questions about this dog, please do not email us via Petfinder. Instead please contact the shelter, either by visiting in person or by phone (see below for address and phone #). This includes questions about whether the animal is still available, how much the adoption fee is, whether the animal is friendly, good with kids, etc. etc. You must call or visit the shelter to ask these questions. Be patient but persistent! The shelter is located at 194 Bare Hill Road in Malone, NY. The shelter is open to visitors from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Please only visit during these hours -- the staff is are very busy caring for the animals at other times. The shelter's phone number is 518-483-8079. However, if the small staff is busy caring for the animals they may not be able to pick up the phone so please leave a message. If you don't hear back within a day or two (longer over the weekend), you can try calling again. Be patient but persistent! If you visit the shelter and want to adopt the dog you saw on Petfinder, or another dog you fall in love with there, you can fill out an application while you are there. Everyone has questions about adoption fees. Please call the shelter manager, Shirley, for details about adoption fees. If your application is approved a $100 deposit is required to hold the dog until he or she is ready to leave the shelter. Cash and in-state checks area accepted. Residents of Canada, you are welcome to apply to adopt a pet from the North Country Animal Shelter. All dogs leave the shelter with their vaccinations (rabies and distemper) and are spayed or neutered. The adoption fee helps the shelter cover these veterinary expenses as well as other overhead. The shelter also relies on (and welcomes) donations of money, supplies and time. So please contribute if you are able! Please do not attempt to adopt one of our dogs -- or any dog for that matter -- if you intend to keep it outside on a chain or penned up 24/7. Dogs need more than just food and water.
